Tell us about your business…what do you do?
Millie and Milo is an interactive music and movement group for 0-5 year olds. We explore the use of puppets, props, and instruments during our upbeat and interactive playlists of nursery rhymes, action and learning songs. Choose from Millie and Milo mixed sessions, for 0-5 years or Millie and Milo Mini’s which are designed for newborns to walkers (once walking we recommend they join the mixed age session). All sessions are pay as you go and are held fortnightly in Botley and Bitterne, both with free parking close by. We also entertain at birthday parties and events, preschools, nurseries and chidminders.
What makes your business unique/special?
We use some exclusive characters, songs and props! I’ve always been very creative and with Children’s Entertaining I can combine my passions of creativity and having fun with my children and others. I designed Millie and Milo, their hair, their clothing, their logo, their table cloth, their leaflets and advertisements. I am a one women and two puppet team. I’ve also had the help of my two daughters along the way. When I started Millie and Milo in September 2017 Amelie would come along and join in with the sessions. Fast forward two and a half years, she is now at school and my second daughter, Marnie now joins me instead. I’ve written some of our songs and had them recorded especially for us – some even feature the super cute vocals of my then 2 year old daughter Amelie. Its so heartwarming to hear her young voice, and I can’t wait to get Marnie involved in future projects too!
I love that our entertainment allows children to have fun, interact and play and that they are learning without realising it. Watching their confidence blossom and the joy on their faces is just so exciting. Our sessions are great socially for both the young children and their adults and it’s wonderful to see so many friendships form. As a mum myself I can really appreciate how (depending on the session) an uninterrupted 25-45 minutes of parent and child participation during these sessions is a wonderful opportunity to laugh, enjoy and relax together during busy family life.
What are you passionate about outside of your business?
Outside of running my small business I am most passionate about my two girls and project managing our house renovation – it’s never ending!
What other local business do you love and why?
When I’m not working or spending time in hardware stores and builders yards, a visit to the Tenth Hole in Southsea for coffee and cake is a real treat or letting off steam at Itchen Valley Country Park. We also love the creative prints of ‘Foursandeights’, they have a fabulous studio at the hot walls in Southsea and run great printing workshops for kids and adults.
